LED Tape and Reel Packaging: Sizes, MSL and What to Specify

MSL: The Part Buyers Forget
Every SMD LED has a Moisture Sensitivity Level. Once the bag opens, floor life counts down; exceeded parts need baking before reflow or they delaminate. Specify MSL handling on your SMT line and keep reels sealed until use.
What to Specify
- Reel quantity and whether partial reels are acceptable.
- Feed orientation (cathode direction in tape) for your feeders.
- Label data: model, bin code, lot, quantity, date — needed for traceability.
