There are several types of LED beads

The three types are: direct insertion type, surface mount type, and high-power.

The direct insertion type includes single color, dual color, and even three color full-color LED beads for models such as 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 8mm, and 10mm. Many include circular, square, elliptical, straw hat shaped, and piranha shaped.

Surface mount models include 0201, 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, 3528, 2016, 2835, 3014, 4014, 3030, 3535, 5050, 5630, 5730, 7020, and 7030.

High-power types include 1W, 3W and 5W high-power packages, and integrated LED chips from 10W, 20W, 30W, 50W, 60W, 70W, 80W up to 100W and 200W. These lamp beads are commonly used in our daily lives.

Lamp beads are made of semiconductor materials. The LED die inside each package is very small, and package sizes vary widely by model — from around 1mm-class SMD parts to 10mm through-hole lamps; refer to each model's datasheet for exact dimensions, so they can be made into various shapes.

LED beads are driven by low-voltage DC power; forward voltage varies by color and package (refer to each model's datasheet). They are typically powered by constant-current or constant-voltage drivers, which are safer than high-voltage supplies and well suited to public places.

An LED's emitting color is determined by its chip material; multi-color or color-changing products (such as RGB) use multiple chips in one package driven separately, rather than simply changing the current. By adjusting the material's band structure and bandgap, LEDs achieve red, yellow, green, blue, orange and other colors.

The brightness of LED chips varies, and their prices also differ.
